Pupils will explore the idea of a rite of passage before investigating what FGM is, how it maims girls and why this ritual is still performed today. Pupils will also be made aware of how to access help and report any suspicions or worries they have about FGM affecting a friend or themselves. The lesson has been left editable and is filled with engaging, well differentiated and fun activities. This is a simple but thought-provoking board game to be played in pairs. Use a coin and move one place for tails and two for heads, that way more of the dilemmas will be discussed. You will need to cut out the dilemma cards. For each card the player has to decide how they would act in a difficult friendship scenario. This lesson helps students have the emotional skills to believe in their ability to achieve and learn how to shelve those negative voices. This is a US spelling version of my Self-Esteem resource.
